This is the story of how the charity was formed.
My husband Tom Waling was diagnosed with Myeloma in February 2021.
Following his stem cell transplant in October 2021 Tom met Mark who had his transplant at the same time and soon they became good friends, meeting up when their treatment and health allowed.
It soon became apparent to Tom that Mark had brought up his 2 daughters on his own from a young age who are now teenagers and was unable to do much work due to his treatment. Tom decided that he wanted to help Mark to have some memorable and precious times with his family while he was able. Tom generously made this possible for him by gifting a donation towards a break away of which Mark was extremely moved and immensely grateful.
It was because of this that Tom had what he called a lightbulb moment to set up a charity that would be able to help others in similar circumstances with Myeloma in Leicester and Leicestershire to have some opportunities to do nice things that they may not otherwise be able to do and so in true Tom fashion, with the help of friends Sally, Julie, Dr Garg and myself, Anne set about to register the charity LMPS. His last wish came true with confirmation of the registration just 3 weeks before he very sadly passed away.
